Wow. Against all odds (chickens, you shall soon learn that I'm quite the cynic... hehe) the first couple of days of 2007 have turned out to be really fantastic. Today (okay, it being 1:04am now, so yesterday, technically) was such an amazingly chilled day, as was yesterday, that I'm getting increasingly optimistic that 2007 is going to be a good year.
Yesterday I woke up at the ungodly hour of 11am, fantastic for an architecture student used to getting up at 5:30 am... EVERYDAY... had a lovely lunch with Papa`, and spent most of the afternoon reading.
At the moment I'm reading the most fascinating book, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Saffran Foer, a lovely diatribe of the thoughts of Oskar, a seven year old boy who has lost his father in the World Trade Centre bombings, and his quest to find out more about his deceased father and a key he finds in his father's closet (Oooh, what does the key open? What does it all mean? Who can I irritate along the way in my search for a lock that the key opens?) Okay, I'll admit as I write this I realise that I'm not conveying how interesting the book really is, just read it and find out :)
In the eve I met up with a lovely boy in old Melville. The original plan was to meet at BuzzNine, which turned out to be closed. As did everything else in old Melville. Well, pretty much everything in old Melville... We ended up going to the Xai-Xai Lounge, at the top of 7th aavenue.... very cool, kind of a cool runnings-meets-berlin vibe... and the beers were cheap! Check it out! ;-) Overall the evening was awesome, and the boy made me smile... alot :)
Today I saw my dearest Nicky, one of my best friends from Architecture, for a late lunch at Catz Pyjama's. It was the first time I'd seen her after her ridiculously lovely trip to Europe (London, Brussels, Paris), and I have to say that firstly, I am so happy she's home (my friends must be HERE, where I can love and adore them), and secondly, I am so lusting to travel! (Going to the Drakensburg does not count... which is all the travelling I've done lately). I just need to go overseas... and soon! So, new goal, and a new resolution: Save up enough money for ridiculously extravagant holiday overseas, screw the cost.
This afternoon I went to visit my my my mother and her boyfriend, who are currently housesitting the loveliest of houses in Roosevelt Park for a friend. Mom made a huge dinner, and, as per usual I ate way too much... I feel as though I could be thrown into a pool right now and there would be no way I could avoid sinking to the bottom, and dying. I'd sit there, not moving... nothing...
I also taught mom and Dave how to play Backgammon, my new favourite game. I learnt it a week ago from Angela, who learnt it from Arlene, who learnt it from unknown Bulgarian sources... Could we have another Sudoku-like craze on our hands? Will we soon have backgammon spinoff's that result in electronic backgammon? Will we hear stupid ad's on the radio with bratty little kids begging poor defenceless parents to buy them the latest "Power-backgammon" sets from retarded petrol stations? Thank heavens it's a two-player game so the ramifacations of such a craze would probably be limited... sigh... I like Backgammon.
Ugh, stomach's rumbling now... Mom, you are the best cook ever, but thank heavens you only have an excuse to make that awesome christmas cake of yours once a year, cause otherwise we'd all die from overindulgence and drowning in pools :)
